What do you do when you have purchased a functional furniture piece for your current home and then move into a new place and find that that piece no longer has a function? Before you even begin your series of guesses I must tell you that getting rid of the furniture is not an option. If you guessed re-purpose, then you are right and you are absolutely my kind of person. When my good friend Zanique, who just so happens to be a master stylista when it comes to decorating, moved into her California home she purchased the cutest Hall Tree (aka Bench with Storage). I remember being greeted by this stylish piece of furniture as I entered her home. The sleek gray color gave a modern touch to the cottage style piece making it a show stopper for anyone who entered the house. So you can imagine when it was time to move into her newest home thousands of miles away, she wasn’t leaving it behind.
Yet when Z began setting up her new home, she realized that the awesome Hall tree that anyone would die for no longer had a use in the foyer. But true to her creative nature, selling or donating the piece did not even cross her mind. Instead she decided to turn it into a bookshelf and put it into the office. And since a carpenter was putting new shelves in her kitchen, why not ask if he can build a couple of shelves for her Hall Tree…I mean bookshelf.
It was a match made in heaven and what used to be a beautiful staple in the entryway, is now an amazing shelter for books, pictures, any item that is lucky enough to be showcased with such a gorgeous piece of furniture.
